Valentine's Day ideas

I have been working like crazy on what Valentine's crafts the kids and I are going to do this year. I will post ideas for you too every day til then but today i one I will definitely be doing!

I got this one off Martha Stewart in her craft section. Its a great craft if you have kids who love to color. If yours are anything like mine you have a ton off broken crayons you can use for this or just pick up a box for less that a buck at the walmart!

Begin with a 12-by-16-inch sheet of waxed paper. Fold it in half along its length; unfold. Deposit wax-crayon shavings (made with a handheld pencil sharpener) evenly but not thickly across one half of the paper. Fold the clean half of the paper over the shavings.

Crimp the three open edges with a 1/2-inch fold to hold the shavings. Protect your ironing surface with kraft paper. Place the waxed paper on the kraft paper, and cover it with another sheet of kraft paper. Iron lightly on medium heat, checking after every few passes. Stop when all the shavings have melted; let cool. Next, trace and cut out hearts of various sizes.

String each heart with a silk thread for hanging.

Project for Spring

I don't know about you but with three kids under the age of 6 my living room is over run with toys! We have two toy boxes but really what good do they do? They are like these pits that the toys get lost in and when my little angels try to find something everything ends up on the floor.

Well I'm at my wits end with and have decided to get some new kind of organization going. Well after looking and feeling defeated by pricing I stumbled on a blog that saved my life lol.

She takes designs from great but expensive stores like potty barn and makes really gorgeous "knock off" versions. She has easy to follow plans and gives you a boat load of confidence!

So this spring I will be attempting her Cameron project for my living room! I am tossing around either doing the basic two book shelves with totes or the full on cabinets with room for my tv.

Blues Clues Party 100bucks or less!

I am so sorry for not getting to this sooner...Holidays hit us hard lol. Well i did make it with 2 bucks to spare.

We had a great party and I will post more pics from the final craft project as well as the blues clues cake I made as soon as I get them off hubs computer.

Mission: Blues Clues Party 100bucks or less craft project 8

Hey all, if you have been following along I am over half way there for my craft projects and so have only spent 94cents using things I had at home in my craft cabinet.

Craft Project 8: Mailbox

Supplies:

cardboard flap leftover from the side table drawer project

6-8 pieces of purple construction paper

1 piece of pink construction paper

2pieces of poster board

glue

scissors

marker

tape

hole punch

pip cleaner-1 piece

Total Cost:

1.50 for poster board

Step One: the flap we saved from the side table project will be the base of your mailbox. So using it as a guide cut one of your pieces of poster board to be the same length...make sure you have held it up in a curved angle(like a mail box) so you have the right size.

Step Two: cover that piece of poster board with the purple construction paper

Step Three: this part can be a little tricky. You are now going to attach the poster board to your cardboard flap. Curve your paper and fit it to your flap leaving a little to hang over the edge. Fold the access over the flap and tape it down.

Step Four: stand you mail box on its opening and trace around both sides onto your poster board....this is for the front and back flaps of your mail box.

Step Five: I did not cover the back flap I just taped it on since no one will see it. As for the front flap cover it with your purple paper and then as you did with body of your mail box fit it to the front leaving some extra to fold over the bottom. Tape it down to the bottom of your cardboard flap

Step Six: Using your hole punch put two holes on your mail box....one on the top of the body and one on your front door so to speak of your mail box...make sure they align together.

Step Seven: take your pipe cleaner and cut it into two pieces. coming from the inside of your mail box put the pipe cleaner in the top hole coming out the top. tape it to the inside of your mailbox. Curve it with your finger but not too much yet.

Step Eight: Same as the top piece coming from the inside put your second pipe cleaner on the door. Tape it to the inside of the door. Now twist the two pieces together but not too tight if you plan on using to hold birthday cards like I do.

Step Nine: Using your poster board cut two circles and color black ovals on them for eyes. Using your pink paper cut a smile out of it. Glue both of these to the front door of your mail box

Step 10: Using your pink paper cut a flag and then trace that flag onto your poster board. trim it to be a bit smaller than the pink and then glue the two pieces together. Glue your flag to the side of you mail box.

That's it your done I promise!

OK here we go Craft Projects 6 and 7 both fairly easy!

Craft Project 6: Three large paw prints for the Blues Clues game

Supplies:

template

2 pieces of dark blue paper

marker

scissors

Total Cost:

0 bucks - I had things on hand

If you have been following along and are making other projects you cost is about 7 bucks right now.

Step One: I googled Blue's Clues Paw Prints and got a few options. Picked the one I liked the best then traced the paw off my screen.

Step Two: Using your template make an outline of the paws on your blue paper. Go over it with your marker

Step Three: Cut out your paws!

Here's mine:

Craft Project 7: Goody Bags part 1

Supplies:

bags

1 piece of dark blue paper and 1 piece of light blue paper

marker

glue

scissors

Total Cost:

I had everything on hand

If you need to purchase any thing:

construction paper--ask a friend or buy a large pack...5bucks

glue at 94cents

Step One: Using the template from the above craft...shrink you template down and trace it.

Step Two: Trace the outer line of your paw on the light blue paper and the inner circles of the paw on the dark blue paper and start cutting!

Step Three: Glue the dark blue parts onto your light blue parts.

Step Four: Glue your paw prints onto the front of your goody bags

That's it your done! Now this is the first half of this project I will show you what they look like when filled and what i put in them in a few days.

Mission: Blue's Clues Party 100bucks or Less Craft Project 5

We are half way there to a Blue's Clues Party for 100 bucks or Less!

Toady we are doing a slightly big project--in size not steps

Craft Project 5-- Side Table Drawer

Since we are playing a game of Blue's Clues I decided to make side table so we would have some where for them to get there notebooks from.

Supplies:
1 box(mine held chairs for our table in it)
red paper-6 or so depending on size of your box
yellow paper-1-2 again depending on size
black paper or scrap black paper
marker
scissors
glue

Total Cost:
94 cents--I had everything on hand but I needed to get a new glue bottle

Step One: Get your box...easy part, if you don't have one head to your grocery store and ask for one...they always keep some in the back or Walmart they are good for that too.

Take the flaps off either the top or the bottom of your box--SAVE THEM we will use them for this and another project

Step Two: cover the front your box with red paper

Step Three: using a longer flap from you box cut a long rectangular shape. Then cover the front of that piece with the yellow construction paper and glue it to the front of you box. I have mine with a half an inch hanging off the top of the box

Step Four: Using a smaller flap from your box cut another rectangular shape as the drawer itself. Cover that with yellow paper and glue it to the front of your box.

Step Five: Cut a small circle out of the black paper and place it on the drawer as her nose or knob. Then draw a set of eyes and mouth.

So thanks for joining me on this adventure! We are going to talk about craft projects 2, 3 and 4 today....

Project 2 - Slippery Soap

Supplies:

Blue Construction Paper - 3 pieces

Black Marker

3 glasses of different sizes

glue

scissors

Total Cost:

0bucks--I had supplies on hand already

If you need to purchase these items you should only plan on spending about 5 bucks...check you dollar store and borrow from friends!

Now first I apologize for now having more photos of slippery...All three of my kids were around for this one so taking pictures was tough lol.

Step One: Draw a rectangle with curved edges for the body

Step Two: Using your three glass make circles on your second sheet of papers. I did three large, three medium and seven small.

Step Three: Draw a set of arms--they do not have to be perfect, these should all be cartoony.

Step Four: Draw your face and bubble lines on Slippery and your bubbles.

Step Five: Once you have cute everything out start gluing! Slippery usually has a small trail of bubbles behind him so that's what I did with mine.

Here is mine: He is going to be taped to the bathroom mirror at the party!

Next up Project 3--Pink Snail. have you seen him? in each episode he appears three times, I will only be doing one as of now but I may add two more later.

Supplies:

If you need to purchase you should consider whether or not you have other characters to make...if not then don't purchase ask friends for the paper or purchase and have it on hand like I do...A pack of construction paper can range from 1.00 to 5.00 depending on where you shop and how much you buy. If you are following along with my Blue's Clues party then I would buy 2 large packs.

Step One: Cut a pink circle and draw a snail swirl on the front

Step Two: Using you white paper draw a snail body--it doesn't have to be perfect! Cut it out when done

Step Three: Glue the two pieces together and there you have it a snail!

Last Project for today: Tickety Tock

Supplies:

1 piece each of purple, black, white and blue construction paper

marker

scissors

glue

bowl x 2 different sizes

cup

Total Cost:

obucks-I had supplies on hand

As I said in the above project if you have to purchase it will be around 5 bucks total or so but that will also pay for other construction paper projects.

Step One: using a bowl trace a large circle, using the same technique and the smaller bowl trace a and cute a circle with the white paper as well

Step Two: Glue your two cut circles together and write the numbers on the white paper. Also draw a small set of eyes(small circles)

Step Three: Using your cup trace and cut to small circles on the blue paper...these will be the bells on to of tickety tock. Glue them to the back of the Tickety Tock.

Step Four: cut another small circle and put it in between the two larger circles. Then using your black paper cute two arms and two small circles. Cut one small circle in half--this will be her feet. glue the other to the hands and then to the center of the clock. Draw a mouth and you are done!

OK here we go...First up The Handy Dandy Notebook from Blue's Clues. Cause what is a Blue's Clues Party without it? We will be using it to play Blue's Clues--leading to cake time

Supplies:

construction paper - 3 green - 4-6 yellow - 2 red

pipe cleaner 6 pieces

1 pencil

glue

scissors

hole punch

Total Cost of this project:

0bucks--I had all supplies already

If you have to buy these products no worries we be using them again with the other projects

Plan on spending around 7 bucks--that means you may have to hunt for good deals! Any of the office supplies like hole punch and scissors...ask around one of your friends most likely has what you need!

Step one:

Fold your green and yellow papers into four sections. Then cut the sections up and put them into piles for each book. You will need 2 green and at least 3 yellows for each book

Step Two: Hole punch 6 holes through all the pages of your book

Step Three: Using the pencil shape the pipe cleaner through the holes you just punched. Trim the pipe cleaner on the ends

Step Four: This part can be tricky...I cheated a bit, I googled the thinking chair found an image and semi traced it off my screen. Then I redrew it onto red construction paper and cut 6 chairs out(one for each book)

Step Five: You're almost done! Glue down your chair to the front of your book and let dry.

Step Six: Once your books are dry you can then write the children's names on the front of the book!

That's it your done! I put enough yellow paper in mine so they can play the game at the party and then again when they get home. This means it can double up as a goody bag item!

Have you ever tried planning a character party on a budget? Its really tough. The hardest part is when you google the theme and the ideas you get from some sites are just out of this world expensive.

Well I'm a woman on a BUDGET...not a 2-3hundred dollar budget, I'm talking a real budget --some where in the 80-100 bucks range would do me great!

So that is my mission to plan my Son's Blue's Clues Party for under 100bucks.

There will be six kids and 7 adults

There will be food at the party.

I will be doing a lot of crafts, games, I will be making my own cake, and this price will include a present or two as well(he's two). If I come in under budget my husband may pass out and going over is not an option....I hope you enjoy this first party planning mission of mine!
